Email Lists – How Many are you on? Is it healthy to your business?
Before I start I want to get into a story first about some of the interaction I get regularly.
Some thing came up this past week in the weekly seminar I do for Get Referrals Fast. After the standard presentation we always have what I call an open session. Rarely does it follow the topic we were discussing and quite often it goes into multiple directions.
This week it went into the topic of focus or rather how the lack of it
The person that was asking was a relatively new marketer that wanted to build a list (a good thing) and be a powerhouse.
He had been buying a bunch of IM products and not getting results from them except for one but that did not continue. He was on a buying spree and not spending enough time to actually see if he could make them work. Now he wanted to change focus again.
Can we get him on our list pretty please. Love people that buy everything.
In all of the products he had bought only one worked a bit for him. He had a little success with Google Sniper but dropped it and went on to the next thing when his pages started to drop.
Instaed of following the instructions and building more links to keep the page up in the rankings (you know that w thing again)…
He was into instant gratification. Still looking for the holy grail of the big red EASY BUTTON.
I want one too.
Now the problem with hopping from thing to thing is that you never get good at anything. He did the minimum with each thing he tried and when it did not get a ton of money on to the next thing.
Instead of taking the little success with the one program and focusing on it to continue to increase how well it worked he jumped to the next thing.
We really need more people like him on our list and then send a lot of promos. Oh yeah I can hear the Kaching already.
Despite what my evil twin would like, this is where being on too many lists can be a killer to your focus. Seeing all the new shiny objects that arrive each day keep you from improving what is working and get you off on tangents.
Changing your business model for the new latest and greatest secret will kill you. You never get good at anything and as competition increases being good at specific things will become more important.
You really need to do two things.
Manage your email properly. A topic I will be covering this coming Thursday at the Get Referrals Fast seminar. This way if you are on a bunch of lists for swipe file purposes you can still keep them but not have them be enticing you. Just check them when you are looking for ideas.
Start unsubscribing from lists that talk about things that don’t fit your current business. If that is one of mine that is fine because you won’t be interested in what I am saying anyhow.
What do you think and no answers allowed from the evil twin? We all know what he thinks
